Would it be a bad idea to get my lip pierced?

I have been wanting to get my lip pierced sense the 6th grade and I'm now going to highschool. My mom said that we could make a deal..if I got ALL A's on my report card I could get it done.. and of course I did! But, is it a good idea? What type of things could go wrong? What type of material should be in the jewelry? What type of things should I look for in the building? How is the body artist supposed to pierce it and is it best to go to a tattoo parlor?
