Are cats losing their winter coats at this time of year?

My male tomcat is looking awful at the moment. Normally he is a handsome well dressed cat.He walks with a swagger and demands the best. That is the best available cat food and conditions. If he doesn't get it he will go to my neighbour and get it there. But, for the last while he is looking ragged unkempt like a tramp cat. Just like a guy who doesn't give a damn about his appearance and I'm worried. Is he losing his inner canine confidence ? His coat is a mess. Full of balls and ragged in appearance totally unlike his previous dapper self. He gets the best of food regularly every day and if I'm late he will growl and indicate his extreme displeasure at the kitchen window where he expects his gourmet meals to be prepared on time. But now he is a mess. What's the best advice to have him back to his normal self? Should I bring him to a cat's beauty parlour or similar for male cats? He might be offended if I brought him to one where there were a lot of er hairdressers fussing about him. He is a male cat after all and he just doesn't want his nails sharpened or whatever.I would just prefer if he looked like his dashing dapper self super confident and handsome. Any advice?
